Over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend we were able to take a much needed family vacation to Keystone, Co. We went out there with two other couples from Manhattan, the Sharps and Hulsey's. My parents were also able to join us. I hadn't been on the slopes with my dad in a long time, the weather and snow were perfect.
On Friday, we got settled in at our "Sanctuary". It was a beautiful house, just a 5 min drive to the slopes. The view was amazing! It was much nicer than any of us had expected. After settling in, it was off to a local bar for a Martini tasting. I have to say my favorite was the Chocolate martini. We sat around creating our itinerary for the following day. We topped the evening off with a night cap in our own hot tub.
Well rested and up early Saturday morning, it was time for the Slopes. My mom was gracious enough to spend the day with Tommy so I could enjoy the slopes with everyone. He was on his best behavior for some Grammy time. The mountain was incredible. We are all so use to the East Coast slopes, that we couldn't stop talking about how beautiful it was. Rory was a first timer, so he was fortunate enough to go with 6 of the best instructors, money could buy. He picked it up really fast so the boys found their way to a few blue runs. The girls stuck together and enjoyed a few nice runs on the green trails. We decided the best was the RipperRoo. At one point we felt like the only ones on the mountain. That night we ate dinner at the top of the mountain at a Fondue restaurant (can't remember the name) The food was incredible and the live authentic German music was complete with the Chicken Dance. Taking the Gondola to and from the restaurant was a little interesting. I had never ridden a gondola at night before.
Sunday was day two on the slopes, where the boys tried a few new trails. My Dad and Danny decided to adventure to the back side of the mountain to ski some of the more difficult trails. They found a trailed titled "Oh, Bob", needless to say it was more than they bargained for. My mom and I stay in town and did some sight seeing. We met everyone for lunch at the Keystone Resort, then made our way to the Sleigh Ride. When looking at the photos, please take note of the blanket mound between Danny and I, that would be Tommy enjoying the ride fast asleep. Back at the Resort Center, everyone had an opportunity to ice skate on a frozen pond. Danny and Rory challenged each other to a little one-on-one hockey, where Danny took a nice face plant (sorry no photos, but Rory recaps well). We finished the night once again in our Hot Tub. Only this time it got a little out of hand with some snow angels (pictures will not be posted, promise).
A snow storm extended our trip with a night in Denver, however we arrived safely home Tuesday evening.
This was an amazing trip. We had a fantastic time with family and friends. We are looking forward to our next adventure with our fellow Manhattanites.
